“It always seems impossible until it”s done.” I’ve thought about that phrase a lot over the last 2.5 years… and I genuinely can’t believe what I’ve achieved!
August 2019, one day before my 39th birthday, I arrived at MK27 (wearing 17 year old trainers which I then repaired weekly with superglue!) to see if I was fit enough for bootcamp … and I wasn’t, ha ha! So I started with personal training sessions (which I loved!) and I gradually improved… then 6 months later I felt ready to try bootcamp too. It was fab – the group were so welcoming, and it was so much fun – and I’ve loved every minute since! PT sessions, Wednesday BCs, Saturday BCs, and the 8 week intensive BCs too… if its on, I’m there!
Every session with Max is unique, and the training is so varied – its incredible. The group is so friendly and supportive too – it really is a joy.
I’m someone who has gone from doing no exercise (remember, 17 year old trainers!) to loving it so much that I find ‘rest days’ the hardest. I’ve learned so much at MK27… not only in training, but also better nutrition, and (perhaps most importantly) how to believe in myself.
I used to think that people who ran marathons must have been born different to me. And I still suspect many of them were (I’m not a natural runner!) … but I started running 4km or 5km on weekdays during lockdown, and a bit further on a Sunday… then my distances increased, and I started to love it. I remember Max saying, “if you ran 16 miles yesterday, you can run 18 miles next week”… and I thought, you’re right – I can. Decision made, job done. Then 18 miles turned into 20 miles.. and before I knew it, I’d run a marathon!
Since then I’ve run a “proper Marathon” (Manc Marathon) twice… I came second in my age group at Manchester Hyrox, so now I’m off to Vegas next month to compete in the World Championships. For someone who has never flown long haul, this sounds nothing short of ridiculous… but its true!
I can’t thank Max (and the MK27 Fitness group) enough… for all of the incredible training sessions, for the support and encouragement, and for making it all so much fun. There’s still lots for me to learn, and loads of challenges which I want to work towards, but that’s exciting and I can’t wait!
As living proof that the unimaginable can be achieved, I would recommend MK27 to anyone. Get involved…see you there!
