So why a personal trainer? Well I have been involved in sports all my adult life, playing football to a reasonable standard for several years and then I caught the running bug, completing three marathons over a few years. Then everything stopped and I went from a physically active job to a desk job, the result, I just piled on the weight, felt unfit and just plain horrible. Then something happened that seems to be quite a familiar defining moment for a number of people – I tried a pair of jeans on and I couldn’t get them above my knees, forget about my waist or hips, they were not even in the picture. Well that was it, I needed help fast.
I found Max purely by chance, a few “googles” for a local personal trainer and he came up! Well maybe it was fate or just meant to be but after just a few sessions I realised I had chosen one of the best personal trainers out there and I was going to achieve my goals. Sounds a bit positive? Well that’s Max, Mr Positive! He just does not allow any negative thoughts, he is always upbeat, encourages you to push yourself, to dig deeper.
Don’t get me wrong, it has been hard, pushing myself to levels of intensity that I have never hit before. Whether it be a 1-2-1 session or a Boot Camp session, I won’t lie the feeling of relief is pretty strong when Max says “and we are done for tonight” or the final group stretch in a Boot Camp session that means we have completed the hour. But the rewards are immense, just the physiological part, that great feeling you are working out and you are hitting those little mini targets Max has set. Then you start to see the results, your clothes are a little loser and your muscle definition is starting to take shape, your running times on a time trial route are coming down, you know your hard work has been worth it.
Where Max excels is his interest in your development, wanting to run an event with you, setting you short, mid and long terms goals. The equipment he uses to measure your progress is really first class. Yes he records your weight but so much more like calories needed day, body fat, BMI and lean muscle percentage and plenty more too. He makes it interesting and so motivating to see the results
So where am I now? Well I’ve still got a long way to go. There is still weight to be lost, strength to be developed and running times to be smashed. I know I have at least one more marathon in me but I am positive I will achieve my goals, well that’s all thanks to Max and his amazing personality, skilful training techniques and just knowing I am not alone on this journey, Max is with me every step of the way.
